Security guards faced 95 violent crimes per 1,000 workers a year from 2015 to 2019, against 8.0 for all workers. Only corrections officers had a higher rate among the occupations measured. Guards lose work time to violence by another person at about eight times the rate for all occupations, and in 2024, 44 of the 64 security guards who died on the job died from what BLS classifies as violent acts. OSHA's workplace violence risk factors read like a post order: working alone or in small numbers, working late at night, guarding valuable property, and contact with the public.
